Paper Piecing a quilt block – Where do I start

Start with a beginner paper pieced Mug Rug.. “It’s beginning to Look Like Christmas” Mug Rug pattern is a free download in my shop. It is designed to be quilted with a walking foot on a domestic sewing machine. Use it to work along with me in my tutorial.

Tools & Supplies You’ll Need

You don’t need much to get started—just a few simple tools make the process smoother:

  • Foundation pattern (printed at 100%).  Let’s start with an easy pattern like my must be christmasmug rug.  It’s a free pattern in my shop. Head on over and download it. Link https://payhip.com/b/4Nmi
  • Sewing machine with a short stitch length
  • Lightweight paper If you have some newsprint cut it  into 8 1/2 ‘ x 11’ so it will fit in your printer. Of course printer paper works but the newsprint is easier to remove when you are done making a block.  You can find newsprint in a child’s drawing pad or go online on amazon.
  • Add-A-Quarter ruler or regular quilting ruler with 1/4” markings
  • Rotary cutter + mat
  • Fabric scraps (oversized pieces work best)
  • Iron or mini pressing tool

Use your new skills to make Whispering Pines!!!
